Glossary of Security Terms

Ball-Bearing Hardplate

One hundred ball bearings encased in hardened steel and positioned inside the door, between the lock and doorplate. Protects against attempted drilling, breaking drill bits. This security feature is offered on all Premium models, including the Liberty Presidential and Washington, and the National Security Magnum and Classic.

Bolt Retention System

A mechanism that prohibits bolt extension while the
door is open, preventing damage to paint and bolt work.

Cam-Drive Bolt Locking Mechanism

A rotating cam and shaft system that opens or closes door locking bolts. This mechanism is offered on all Deluxe and Value models in the Liberty Safe product family.

Clutch-Drive (Handle Slip) Mechanism

A mechanism designed to resist break-in by allowing the door handle to slip when excessive force is applied to the handle. All Liberty and National Security products include this feature.

Fail-Safe™ Relocker

Sensory device coupled with layers of hardened steel positioned between the lock and doorplate. Secures the door in the locked position if the lock is punched, drilled or torched in an attempted entry. All Liberty brand models include this feature.

Gear-Drive Bolt Locking Mechanism

A machined gear system that smoothly opens or closes door locking bolts. A higher-end mechanism offered on all Premium models in the Liberty Safe family of products.

Hardened Steel

Steel that has been heat-treated to make it harder and more difficult to break, bend or penetrate. All Liberty and National Security safes included various levels of hardened steel in the doors. Hardened steel in Liberty brand products is sometimes called Diamalloy™ steel.

HiSecurity™ Composite Door

A unique door design consisting of fireboard insulation sandwiched between layers of steel and hardened steel plate. Developed and introduced by Liberty Safe in 1997, this door design is offered on the Presidential, Washington, Lincoln and Colonial® models in the Liberty brand.

Interlocking Bolt System

A mechanism that positions locking bolts in an "over-lock" position, making drilling or punching the bolts nearly impossible. Sometimes called a "Dead Lock" system. This proprietary design is standard on all National Security models.

Plate-Steel Door

A door constructed of solid sheet steel with various thickness. Franklin and Residential models in the Liberty brand, and all National Security safes are constructed with this door design.

Reinforced Door Edge

Layers of steel laminated together and welded to the door edge. This feature makes the door edge stronger, providing greater protection against prying. The National Security Magnum model comes standard with a 1" thick reinforced door edge.

Relocking Devices

Sensory devices located inside the safe door and lock that secure the door in the locked position in an attempted attack. National Security models include three relockers, protecting against punch, drill and torch attacks. All Liberty brand models include a Fail-Safe™ relocker system protecting against punch or drill attacks (see Fail-Safe™ Relocker).

Seamless Steel Body

Safe body construction with all seams welded and sealed. An important feature to protect against prying attacks. All full-sized Liberty and National Security safes are built with this construction.
